The Harvard women’s lightweight rowing team earned two medals on May 31 at the IRA National Championship Regatta held on Lake Natoma in Gold River, California. Harvard-Radcliffe secured a silver medal in the varsity eight and a bronze medal in the doubles competition.
In the first race of the day, Kiera Mariko Dwan and Stella Sweitzer competed in the doubles event. The pair challenged Boston University for gold during the opening 500 meters but dropped behind Wisconsin midway through, finishing third with a time of 7:49.867 to claim bronze.
Radcliffe’s varsity four entered as the third seed but had a slow start, finding themselves in sixth place after 500 meters. A strong push during the second quarter put them back into medal contention; however, they ultimately finished fifth with a time of 7:37.186.
The final race for Radcliffe was the varsity eight event. Stroked by Elle Krywosa, Harvard chased Princeton throughout and crossed the finish line second with a time of 6:44.002, earning silver for a second consecutive year at this championship.
Other participating schools included Boston University, Wisconsin, MIT, Stanford, Georgetown, and Princeton across various events. Full boat lineups were provided for each Harvard entry.
