Harvard women’s basketball holds Cornell to season-low score in decisive victory

Harvard women’s basketball defeated Cornell 74-37 at Lavietes Pavilion, limiting the Big Red to their lowest point total of the season. The Crimson improved to 15-9 overall and 8-3 in Ivy League play, while Cornell dropped to 8-16 and 3-8 in conference games.

Karlee White led all scorers with 24 points on 10-of-14 shooting, adding five rebounds and three steals. Katie Krupa contributed 10 points on 3-of-6 shooting.

Harvard started strong, holding Cornell to a single field goal in the first seven and a half minutes and leading 11-2 early. White scored eight points in the opening quarter, helping Harvard finish the frame ahead 17-8.

The Crimson expanded their lead in the second quarter with a 14-2 run. By halftime, Harvard was up by 23 points after outscoring Cornell 26-12 in the period. White had totaled 22 points by halftime.

In the third quarter, six different Harvard players contributed points as the team outscored Cornell by another margin. The defense continued to be effective, holding Cornell to just six points on two-of-twelve shooting in the fourth quarter.

White recorded double figures for her tenth consecutive game and posted her fourth game with at least twenty points this season. Krupa reached double digits for the seventh time this year.

Olivia Jones finished with nine rebounds, eight points (on four-of-seven shooting), seven assists, and two steals. Alayna Rocco scored nine points, making three of four attempts from beyond the arc. Asani Ceaser set a career-high with four assists in nine minutes of play.

Defensively, Harvard forced twenty-one turnovers from Cornell and converted those into twenty-five points. The Crimson also dominated inside scoring (40-12) and rebounding (39-21). With this win, Harvard has now won nine straight games against Cornell and leads the all-time series between these programs 79-13.

Harvard will close its home schedule next weekend against Penn on February 27 and Princeton on February 28 at Lavietes Pavilion.
