Harvard women’s lacrosse defeated Brown by a score of 12-9 on Mar. 28 at Jordan Field, securing its first Ivy League victory of the season and extending its winning streak to three games.
The match drew a large crowd and marked an important milestone for the program as it notched a key conference win. The Crimson’s strong performance in the opening half set the tone for the rest of the game.
Brown opened scoring, but Harvard responded with eight consecutive goals, including two from Grace Mullahy on free position opportunities. Cecelia Batchelder, Tori Balser, and Charlotte Hodgson contributed to this run, with Mullahy completing a hat trick in the first quarter. “Mullahy completed a first-quarter hat trick after converting on a pass from Callie Batchelder on the woman-up, tallying three of the first four Crimson goals of the game,” according to Harvard Athletics.
Cecelia Batchelder added another goal before halftime, bringing her total to eight goals over five quarters. Charlotte Hodgson scored early in the second quarter after an assist from Mullahy. Natalie Marvin followed with another goal for Harvard before Brown broke their run late in the half. Despite Brown’s efforts—including five straight goals between third and fourth quarters—Hodgson scored again late in regulation to secure Harvard’s lead.
Game notes highlighted that Hodgson recorded her third hat trick of the season and has seven goals over her last three games. Emma Barkauskas improved her record as starting goalkeeper to 3-1 after making three consecutive starts for the first time in her career. The Batchelder sisters combined for eight points during this game; Cecilia finished with two goals and two assists while Callie added four assists.
Seven different players scored for Harvard during this match-up against Brown. On defense, Despina Giannakopoulos collected two ground balls to finish out her week with ten over two games.
Looking ahead, Harvard will travel next Saturday to Philadelphia where they are scheduled to face Penn.
