Harvard women’s squash falls to Princeton; nine-year Ivy title streak ends

The Harvard women’s squash team, ranked No. 1 nationally, ended its Ivy League season with a 7-2 defeat against the No. 2 Princeton Tigers in Princeton, New Jersey. This result allowed Princeton to claim the Ivy League title and stopped Harvard’s nine-year run as Ivy League champions.

Princeton took an early lead by winning the first three matches at positions five, eight, and three. Harvard’s Sarita Popat narrowly missed a win at position eight, losing in the fifth game. The Tigers continued their momentum by sweeping the next set of matches at positions nine, four, and two to secure the overall victory.

Despite trailing 6-0, Harvard managed two wins in the final round. Caroline Fouts defeated Zeina Zein, who is this year’s College Squash Association Individual National Champion, in four games at the top position. Dixon Hill added another win for Harvard at position six.

The final score was Princeton 7, Harvard 2. Individual match results included:

– Hermione Cao (Princeton) def. Sarita Popat (Harvard), 3-2
– Sonya Sasson (Princeton) def. Molly Stoltz (Harvard), 3-0

Looking ahead, Harvard will finish its regular season against No. 11 Tufts on Tuesday, February 17th at the Tufts Squash Center in Medford.
