Harvard women’s tennis tops UMass with strong doubles and singles performances

Harvard women’s tennis secured a 4-1 victory over No. 62 UMass at the Murr Center in Cambridge on Saturday. The Crimson, ranked No. 75, won the doubles point after coming from behind in two of their matches.

Kavya Karra and Anna-Raphaëlle Serghi gave Harvard an early advantage with a 6-4 win on court one. Claire Shao and Kate Kim followed by overcoming a 3-0 deficit to win 6-4 on court two, clinching the doubles point for Harvard.

In singles play, Karra delivered a straight-set victory (6-3, 6-3) at the top spot, marking her first win at No. 1 singles this season. She has now recorded wins at all four top singles positions this year. Shao extended Harvard’s lead with another straight-set win against Amelia Tye of UMass (7-5, 6-2).

UMass earned its only point when Martina Pavissich defeated Serghi on court three (6-3, 6-4). Kim secured the overall match for Harvard by defeating Fiona Ao (6-4, 6-2) on court four.

The remaining singles matches were unfinished when the outcome was decided.

Harvard will next face Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers, Florida on March 19.
