Harvard women’s tennis lost a close match to Dartmouth, 4-3, in the Ivy League opener on Mar. 30.

The match was important as it marked the beginning of conference play for both teams. Harvard now has a record of 10-6 overall and starts Ivy competition at 0-1.

The Crimson took an early lead by winning the doubles point. Natalie Block and Natasha Rajaram secured a win at court three, followed by Kavya Karra and Stephanie Yakoff clinching the point with a hard-fought victory over Peyton Capuano and Michela Moore at court one. Dartmouth earned its only doubles win on court two.

In singles play, Dartmouth gained momentum with wins on courts one and three. Andra Braicu brought Harvard back into contention by defeating Josephine Lombardi in straight sets. The teams continued to trade points: Dartmouth won on court two before Block evened the score again for Harvard with her win on court five. Ultimately, Dartmouth secured the overall victory with a three-set win on court four.

Looking ahead, Harvard will travel next weekend for matches against Princeton on April 5 and Penn on April 6.
