Harvard women’s tennis lost a close match to No. 52 Princeton, 4-3, on April 4 in New Jersey.
The result marks Harvard’s second loss in Ivy League play this season, while Princeton continues its strong performance with a conference record of 2-0. The match was closely contested and came down to the final singles matches.
Harvard started strong by winning the doubles point. Kate Kim and Claire Shao won their match against Eva Elbaz and Isabella Chhiv of Princeton, while Kavya Karra and Stephanie Yakoff secured another victory for Harvard over the nationally ranked duo of Tsehay Driscoll and Pearlie Zhang. This gave Harvard an early lead in the contest.
Princeton responded with singles victories on courts three and four to take the lead. Karra earned her second win of the day for Harvard by defeating Chhiv in three sets on court two, tying up the overall score. Natalie Block then put Harvard ahead again after a three-set win over Driscoll on court six.
However, Princeton claimed wins on courts five and one to clinch the overall victory. In singles play, Alice Ferlito defeated Stephanie Yakoff in three sets during the final match of the day.
The Crimson will next face Penn tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. Eastern Time in Philadelphia.
