Harvard women’s tennis will travel to face No. 58 Princeton and Penn in Ivy League matches on April 4 and April 5, according to an announcement on Apr. 1.
The matches are important for Harvard as the team seeks its first Ivy League win of the season after a recent loss to Dartmouth. The Crimson currently holds a record of 10-6 overall and is ranked No. 67 in the latest ITA Division I Women’s Team Rankings.
Against Dartmouth, Harvard secured the doubles point and saw singles victories from Natalie Block and Andra Braicu but ultimately lost the match. Stephanie Yakoff and Kavya Karra have been leading the team with strong performances in both singles and doubles play. Both juniors have achieved 18 singles wins each this year, while as a doubles pair they hold a perfect 10-0 record at the No. 1 spot during dual matches, ranking No. 46 nationally.
Yakoff is also ranked No. 81 individually in singles with an overall record of 18-4 this season, including an impressive showing at the top singles position. First-year player Claire Shao has contributed with thirteen singles wins and eleven doubles victories so far.
The upcoming match against Princeton marks their second meeting this season; Harvard previously lost to them at the ECAC Championships by a score of 4-1. Historically, Princeton leads their all-time series by one match (28-27), though Harvard broke a losing streak last year with its first win over Princeton since 2017.
Looking ahead, Harvard will return home after more than a month away to host Brown on Friday, April 10.
