Harvard women’s tennis to face Quinnipiac after two road victories

Harvard University’s women’s tennis team will host Quinnipiac this Saturday, February 28, at noon. The match comes after a successful weekend for the Crimson in Tennessee, where they secured victories over Southeast Missouri State with a score of 7-0 and Memphis with a score of 4-0.

Key players Stephanie Yakoff, Kavya Karra, and Kate Kim each won both of their singles matches during these sweeps. All eleven singles wins by Harvard over the weekend were achieved in straight sets. Claire Shao, Anna-Raphaëlle Serghi, and Natasha Rajaram also contributed singles victories against Southeast Missouri State.

Stephanie Yakoff leads Harvard’s singles lineup with an overall record of 16-2 and is currently ranked No. 71 nationally in singles. She has also recorded a 16-3 mark in doubles play during the current season. Karra follows closely behind with 14 singles wins and holds the team’s best doubles record at 19 wins this year.

The pair of Karra and Yakoff remains undefeated at 7-0 during the dual season while playing as Harvard’s top doubles team. They are ranked No. 45 nationally in the ITA doubles rankings.

First-year player Claire Shao has reached double-digit wins in singles competition, posting an 11-6 record so far. Last weekend, she earned her fourth dual season win at the No. 3 position by defeating Sofia Zemotsova from Southeast Missouri State in straight sets.

Harvard maintains an unbeaten record against Quinnipiac, having won all six previous encounters between the teams. Their most recent meeting resulted in a 4-0 victory for Harvard last season.

Following Saturday’s match, Harvard will conclude its non-conference home schedule next weekend against UMass-Amherst on March 7 at 11:30 a.m.
