Harvard women’s water polo secures top seed with win over Brown

The No. 11 Harvard women’s water polo team secured the top seed for the postseason after a 15-7 victory against Brown at the Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatic Center on April 4.

The win brings Harvard’s overall record to 24-3 as they prepare for the upcoming Collegiate Water Polo Association Championship. The match started closely, with Harvard leading by just one goal after the first quarter, but the Crimson extended their lead in subsequent quarters and finished strong with a five-goal fourth period.

Sophomore Sofia Del Villar led her team with seven points, including four goals and three assists. Junior Maya O’Dea also scored four goals and provided two assists. Senior Heidi Heffelfinger contributed six points through three goals and three assists. First-year Lucy Levenberg-Penklis added two goals, while senior Ella Schneider and juniors Lucy Berkman and Lily Britt each scored once.

In goal, sophomore Orli Cooper made eight saves, while senior Sutchie Ofori-Nyako came off the bench to make one save.

Harvard will enter the CWPA Championship as the number one seed when play begins on April 10 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The Crimson are scheduled to face either Brown or Bucknell on April 11.
