Boston College men’s hockey sophomore forward James Hagens was named one of the Top 10 Finalists for the Hobey Baker Memorial Award, according to an announcement by the organization on March 18.
The Hobey Baker Memorial Award is given annually to the top player in college hockey. Hagens’ selection highlights his strong performance this season and continues a recent trend for Boston College, which has had a finalist for three consecutive years.
Hagens, who was named a Hockey East First Team All-Star and led the league in scoring, is currently tied for fifth nationally in goals with 23 and ranks seventh in points per game at 1.36. He leads all players in Hockey East with 45 points, consisting of 23 goals and 22 assists. Hagens is also on a notable streak, having recorded points in each of his last 13 games, totaling 22 points from 12 goals and 10 assists during that span.
This marks the third straight year that Boston College has produced a Hobey Baker Top 10 Finalist. Last season, Ryan Leonard earned the honor, while Cutter Gauthier and Will Smith were finalists during the previous campaign.
The next steps in the award process include announcing the Hobey Hat Trick—the final three candidates—on Thursday, April 2. The winner will be revealed on Friday, April 10 at the Frozen Four event in Las Vegas.
