Boston College sophomore forward James Hagens signed an American Hockey League amateur tryout agreement with the Boston Bruins, the organization announced on Mar. 24. Hagens will join the Providence Bruins, which is the AHL affiliate of the NHL’s Boston Bruins.

Hagens was selected seventh overall by the Bruins in the 2025 National Hockey League Entry Draft. He completed his sophomore season as Boston College’s leading scorer, finishing with 47 points from 23 goals and 24 assists. He also led his league in both points and goals.

Hagens received several honors during his college career, including being named a Hobey Baker Top 10 Finalist after ranking fifth nationally in goals and seventh in points per game for the season. In league play, he recorded 28 points on 13 goals and 15 assists, earning him Hockey East First Team All-Star recognition, as well as the Three Stars Award and designation as league scoring champion.

Over two seasons at Boston College, Hagens played in 71 games and totaled 84 points from 34 goals and 50 assists. Internationally, he represented the United States at the IIHF World Junior Championship for two consecutive years and helped lead Team USA to a gold medal in 2025.
