Boston University’s women’s basketball team lost to Lehigh University 76-61 on Saturday at Case Gym. The Terriers, now with a record of 9-18 overall and 5-11 in the Patriot League, were unable to take the lead at any point during the game. Lehigh improved to 15-11 overall and 11-5 in conference play.
Senior Anete Adler led Boston University with 24 points, making 12 out of 16 shots and matching her career high from a previous game against Lafayette. Sophomore Hildur Gunnsteinsdóttir contributed nine points for BU.
Lehigh was effective from long range, making 13 three-pointers and shooting nearly 52 percent from the field. Lily Fandre led four Mountain Hawks players in double figures with 22 points on 8-of-13 shooting. Alana Reddy added five three-pointers for a total of 17 points, while Belle Bramer recorded 15 points, six rebounds, and five assists.
The game started with Lehigh quickly establishing an early lead after threes by Reddy and Whitney Lind, who finished with 14 points. BU did not score its first field goal until Adler’s layup late in the first quarter. Adler scored the last six Terrier points in that period as BU trailed by seven.
Adler continued her scoring streak into the second quarter before junior Bella McLaughlin assisted Rose Azmoudeh for a fastbreak three-pointer that brought BU within four points. Both teams exchanged baskets through much of the second quarter until Bramer helped extend Lehigh’s lead to a halftime margin of 37-25.
In the third quarter, senior Anastasiia Semenova scored six of BU’s first eight points but Lehigh responded by hitting six consecutive shots—five from beyond the arc—to widen their advantage to as much as 63-40 late in the period.
BU made several attempts to close the gap in the fourth quarter with contributions from Audrey Ericksen and Azmoudeh, but Lehigh maintained control throughout. Gunnsteinsdóttir cut the deficit to sixteen late in regulation before Reddy hit another three-pointer for Lehigh.
Boston University shot just over 47 percent from the field but made only four three-pointers—three coming in the final quarter. The Terriers held a slight edge in rebounding (30-26) and outscored Lehigh inside (42-32). Adler and Semenova each grabbed seven rebounds. McLaughlin led BU with five assists; Gracyn Lovette had eight assists for Lehigh as part of their team total of twenty-one on twenty-nine made baskets.
Adler surpassed twenty points for the fifth time this season and sixth time overall. This was also the first time since November that BU allowed an opponent to shoot above fifty percent from the floor. With this result, Lehigh now leads Boston University in their all-time series by one game (15-14), having split their regular season matchups this year.
Boston University will continue its homestand next Saturday against American University on Senior Day, with tip-off scheduled for 11:30 a.m.
