First-year athlete Dylan McElhinney advanced to the quarterfinal round of the women’s 1500m on May 28 at the 2026 NCAA East First Round in Lexington, Kentucky. McElhinney, from New York and an All-Ivy League Second Team selection, ran a personal-best time of 4:10.98 to finish fifth in her heat and automatically qualify for Saturday’s quarterfinal. Her time was seventh overall among all competitors in the first round.
McElhinney’s final lap split was 1:05.28, which allowed her to break away with the lead pack. The performance marked the third-fastest time in school history for the event, making her only the third Harvard student-athlete to run under 4:11 in the women’s 1500m, joining Maia Ramsden and Abbe Goldstein.
In other events, sophomore Abigail Dennis set a new school record in the women’s 100 hurdles with a time of 13.32 seconds and finished in 28th place. Dennis also competed in the women’s 400 hurdles first round, finishing with a time of 1:02.65 for a placement of 46th.
Sophomore Tyler Glover placed twentieth in her NCAA East First Round debut for shot put with a throw of 16.34 meters, surpassing sixteen meters for the third time this season. Junior Marta Amani took twenty-fourth place in long jump after leaping six meters on her second attempt; she has exceeded that distance four times this year.
Sophomore Ella McRitchie cleared a height of 4.22 meters to take twentieth place in pole vault; she holds Harvard’s school record at that event with a previous mark set earlier this season. Sophomore Ella Cooper participated in both sprints, finishing twenty-ninth (11.42 seconds) in the women’s 100m and twenty-fifth (23.24 seconds) in the women’s 200m first rounds.
Day three of competition is scheduled for tomorrow starting with men’s high jump at 2 p.m., with coverage available live on ESPN+.
