Northeastern lost to Monmouth 8-6 on Friday afternoon at Friedman Diamond, according to an April 3 announcement. The defeat evens the series at one game each, with a deciding game scheduled for Saturday.
The outcome is important as both teams are competing in the Colonial Athletic Association, with Monmouth now holding an 11-3 conference record and Northeastern standing at 9-5.
Northeastern took an early lead by scoring three runs in the second inning. Carter Bentley singled and Charlie Criscola doubled, putting two runners in scoring position. Will Fosberg then hit a two-run double, followed by Carmelo Musacchia’s RBI single. Chris Walsh added another run with an RBI single in the fourth inning after Bentley walked and stole second base.
Monmouth responded with a four-run sixth inning, using three consecutive singles to load the bases before manufacturing runs through a bunt single, a hit by pitch, and two sacrifice flies. This gave Monmouth a lead they would not relinquish. Although Northeastern attempted a comeback in the ninth inning—scoring once on a Brinker infield single—the rally ended with two runners left on base.
The series will be decided on Saturday at Friedman Diamond at 1 p.m.
