The Northeastern University women’s swimming and diving team ended its season at the CAA Swimming and Diving Championships in Hampton, Virginia, with several strong performances. The event took place at the Hampton Virginia Aquaplex.
Junior Mary Nordmann achieved a milestone by winning gold in the 200-yard butterfly. Her victory marked the first time a Northeastern swimmer has won gold in this event at the CAA Championships. Nordmann finished with a time of 2:00.29, which also set a new school record, surpassing the previous mark set in 2011.
In diving, senior Anelise Kim earned a bronze medal in the 1-meter dive with a score of 270.75.
Senior Anna Verlander secured fourth place in the championship final of the 200-yard backstroke, finishing with a time of 1:58.46 for a top-five spot in the conference.
Freshman Sophie Bromley led Northeastern swimmers in the consolation final of the 200 backstroke, placing ninth overall with a time of 2:00.94. Sophomore Delaney Alonso followed closely behind to finish tenth at 2:01.41.
Freshman Siena Griffiths competed in the consolation final of the 1650 freestyle and finished ninth overall (17:08.16). Junior Bella Busconi was just behind her, taking tenth place (17:10.34).
In sprint events, freshman Alex Fuller placed sixth in the finals of the 100 freestyle (50.30), while May Bradburn swam to tenth place overall (50.87) after competing in consolation finals.
The Huskies’ relay team—composed of Alex Fuller, Mary Nordmann, Kotoko Blair, and May Bradburn—won bronze in the 400 freestyle relay with a combined time of 3:20.70. This performance set another school record for Northeastern; their previous best was established during last year’s championships.
After four days of competition at this year’s CAA Championships, Northeastern concluded its season.
