Northeastern University’s baseball team secured its first victory of the 2026 season by defeating Grambling State 4-1 at Alex Box Stadium in Baton Rouge. This marked the first meeting between the two programs.

Robbie O’Connor started for Northeastern and pitched five innings, allowing just one hit and striking out four. He was relieved by Joseph Hauser, who struck out two of three batters to maintain the lead after O’Connor exited in the sixth inning. Nick Coniglio and Ryan Griffin also contributed, with Griffin earning his first career save.

Northeastern took an early lead in the first inning when Ryan Gerety singled, stole second, advanced to third on a throwing error, and scored on a double from Carter Bentley. Bentley then stole third base before Eric Cha drove him home with a single up the middle.

In the second inning, Henry DiGiorgio drew a walk and Carmelo Musacchia was hit by a pitch; both stole bases to reach scoring position but were left stranded after a strikeout and double play ended the threat.

Grambling State managed their only run in the sixth inning after O’Connor had left the game. Northeastern responded in their half of the sixth as DiGiorgio walked, reached third on a failed pickoff attempt, and scored on Musacchia’s single. Harrison Feinberg added another run with a sacrifice fly.

The Huskies added an insurance run in the eighth when Chris Walsh was hit by a pitch and DiGiorgio reached base on a fielder’s choice. Both advanced via stolen bases before Musacchia delivered a sacrifice fly to center field to score Walsh.

Gerety and Cha led Northeastern offensively, each collecting two hits. Bentley contributed with an RBI double while Musacchia finished with one hit, two steals, and drove in a run.

The Huskies totaled 10 stolen bases during the game—a mark they last surpassed on March 7, 2025 against San Diego State when they went 11-for-11 in steals.

Northeastern will continue its series in Baton Rouge with a game against #2 LSU scheduled for Saturday at Alex Box Stadium.
