Northeastern lost the series finale to Hofstra, 11-10, on March 29 at University Field, with the Pride securing a walk-off win in the bottom of the ninth inning. This result marks Northeastern’s first Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) series loss since 2024.
The outcome is significant as it ends a strong conference run for Northeastern and gives Hofstra its first CAA series victory over the Huskies since 2012. The Huskies now hold an overall record of 14-12 and are 8-4 in CAA play.
Northeastern entered the eighth inning with a three-run lead but could not maintain it as Hofstra scored four runs in both the eighth and ninth innings. Andrew Basel took the loss after coming into pitch during the final frame. Offensively, Matt Brinker led Northeastern by hitting a go-ahead grand slam in the sixth inning, finishing his day with two hits and four runs batted in. Harrison Feinberg contributed two hits including a solo home run and had two RBI, while Chris Walsh also recorded two doubles and an RBI.
The Huskies built their early offense with Walsh doubling to deep center field before scoring on Ryan Gerety’s double. Later innings saw contributions from several players: Aschettino drove in a run during the fifth; Brinker’s grand slam capped off a six-run sixth inning; Bentley added an RBI single; Feinberg hit his fifth home run of the season; Musacchia delivered key sacrifice flies.
Ryan Griffin started on the mound for Northeastern, pitching four innings before being relieved by Andrew Rogovic who struck out three batters across another four frames. In total, Northeastern matched Hofstra’s offensive output with fifteen hits and stole four bases as a team.
Looking ahead, Northeastern will try to regroup as they prepare for upcoming games at Friedman Diamond. The team is scheduled to host UConn on Tuesday, March 31 before starting a weekend series against Monmouth beginning Thursday, April 2.
