The Northeastern University baseball team announced on May 11 that it will close out its regular season with a four-game road stretch, starting with a non-conference game against the University of Connecticut on Tuesday, May 12. The Huskies will then play a three-game Colonial Athletic Association series at Towson from Thursday, May 14 through Saturday, May 16.
These final games are important as Northeastern looks to secure the top seed in the CAA North Division heading into postseason play. The team currently holds a record of 31-18 overall and 20-7 in conference competition.
Northeastern recently completed its home schedule by sweeping Stony Brook in three games, outscoring their opponent by a combined score of 34-7. Robbie O’Connor improved his season record to 8-1 after pitching Friday’s opener. On Saturday, Ryan Gerety drove in four runs and Harrison Feinberg matched him with four runs batted in as well. Luc Rising delivered six shutout innings to earn CAA Pitcher of the Week honors. Sunday’s game tested the team’s resilience as they responded each time Stony Brook closed the gap, ultimately completing the sweep behind Cooper Maher’s win and Andrew Wertz’s fourth save.
The Huskies have excelled on the basepaths this year, leading all college teams nationwide with 191 stolen bases for the season. Harrison Feinberg set a new single-season program record with 39 steals while also posting strong batting numbers: .349 average, .458 on-base percentage, .646 slugging percentage, along with fifteen home runs and sixty runs batted in. Carmelo Musacchia tied Northeastern’s all-time career mark for stolen bases at eighty-nine after swiping thirty-six this year; together he and Feinberg have combined for seventy-five steals during this campaign.
Tuesday’s matchup at UConn is a rematch from March when UConn won decisively by sixteen runs. The upcoming weekend series against Towson carries significant playoff implications for both teams as Northeastern aims to lock up first place in its division.
