The Northeastern University baseball team will return to Friedman Diamond for a four-game homestand starting March 31. The schedule includes a non-conference game against the University of Connecticut on Tuesday, followed by a three-game Colonial Athletic Association series with Monmouth beginning Thursday.
This week’s games are significant as Northeastern looks to improve its position in the CAA North Division. The team currently holds second place with an 8-4 conference record, trailing first-place Monmouth by two games.
Northeastern recently faced Hofstra in a challenging three-game series, coming away with one win and two losses despite close scores. Highlights included Matt Brinker driving in six runs over the weekend, Harrison Feinberg delivering five hits and five runs batted in, and Ryan Gerety extending his reached-base streak across all three games. According to the team, “Despite the result, the Huskies’ offense showed fight — Matt Brinker drove in six runs across the three games, Feinberg collected five hits and five RBI on the weekend, and Ryan Gerety reached base in all three games to extend his team-leading reached-base streak.”
Tuesday’s matchup against UConn is part of a home-and-home series between the New England programs. UConn enters at 14-15 overall after winning its recent Big East series against Xavier but losing last year’s NCAA Tournament bid despite finishing 38-21. Both teams opened their seasons at Phoenix’s MLB Desert Invitational.
Monmouth arrives as one of CAA’s strongest teams this season with a perfect road record and recent sweeps over Towson and Elon. With eighteen conference games remaining for Northeastern—and another meeting with Monmouth later this year—this weekend’s series could play an important role in determining whether Northeastern can claim its second consecutive regular season title.
