Northeastern defeats New Hampshire 7-3 to advance in Hockey East tournament

The Northeastern men’s hockey team secured a 7-3 win over New Hampshire on March 11, advancing to the Hockey East quarterfinals at Conte Forum.

This victory ends New Hampshire’s season and allows Northeastern to move forward in the tournament. The game featured a strong offensive performance from Northeastern, with several players contributing key goals throughout the match.

Freshman Jacob Mathieu opened the scoring for Northeastern just over two minutes into the first period, assisted by Dylan Compton and Amine Hajibi. After New Hampshire tied the game early in the second period, Tyler Fukakusa reclaimed the lead for Northeastern. Hajibi extended the advantage with another goal before New Hampshire narrowed the gap again. Before the end of the second period, Joe Connor scored on a power play, giving Northeastern a two-goal cushion.

In the third period, New Hampshire’s Nick Ring scored on a power play to make it 5-3. However, late empty-net goals from Matthew Perkins and Noah Jones sealed Northeastern’s victory. Goaltender Lawton Zacher made 24 saves for his first Hockey East Tournament win. Mathieu and Griffin Erdman each recorded three blocked shots, while Hajibi led with four shots on goal.

With this result, Northeastern advances to face UMass in the quarterfinals at Mullins Center on Saturday, March 14.
