The Northeastern Huskies were held to two hits in a 6-0 loss to the Hofstra Pride on May 21 at Brooks Field, sending the Huskies into the elimination bracket of the 2026 Colonial Athletic Association Baseball Championship.
The result is significant as it marks Northeastern’s first shutout loss since April and extends their winless record against Hofstra in CAA Tournament play. The Huskies are now 0-4 all-time versus Hofstra in this postseason event.
Hofstra took control early, scoring three runs in the first inning through a combination of a triple, RBI single, walk, hit-by-pitch, and a two-RBI single. Robbie O’Connor managed to limit further damage by ending the inning with a groundout. The Pride added another run in the second and continued to build their lead throughout the game.
O’Connor pitched four innings for Northeastern, allowing five runs (four earned) on six hits with two walks and three strikeouts. David McSweeney relieved him for nearly five innings, giving up one run on five hits while striking out two batters. Tom Mahoney closed out with a scoreless third of an inning.
Northeastern’s offense struggled against Hofstra’s pitching staff. Their best chance came in the third inning when they loaded the bases but could not score. They also put runners on base late in the game but failed to convert those opportunities into runs. Feinberg and Bentley had Northeastern’s only hits; Harmony drew three walks over four plate appearances.
Looking ahead, Northeastern will face either Monmouth or UNCW on Friday afternoon at Brooks Field for an elimination contest as they try to stay alive in tournament play.
