The Northeastern Huskies were eliminated from the NCAA Lawrence Regional after a 10-9 loss to No. 14 Arkansas on May 31 at Hoglund Ballpark in Lawrence, Kansas, ending their season with a record of 39-22.
Northeastern trailed by six runs but mounted late rallies in the seventh and ninth innings. Will Fosberg delivered a pinch-hit, two-RBI double, and Henry DiGiorgio added an RBI single in the ninth to bring the Huskies within one run. Arkansas then brought in its closer, who recorded the final out with Northeastern’s tying and go-ahead runs on base. The Razorbacks hit four home runs during the game, including two each in the seventh and ninth innings.
Cooper Maher started for Northeastern and pitched five innings, allowing four runs—two earned—on five hits with six strikeouts. A throwing error in the fourth inning contributed to three unearned runs for Arkansas. Offensively, Ryan Gerety and AJ Aschettino helped spark a rally in the fourth that resulted in Northeastern’s first run. Matt Brinker hit a solo home run as part of a sixth-inning surge that tied the game at four before Arkansas responded with another offensive burst.
Aschettino led Northeastern hitters by going 3-for-3 with a two-run homer, two walks, two runs scored, and two RBIs. He finished regional play hitting .545 (6-for-11) with a .615 on-base percentage—the highest among his teammates. Fosberg’s key double came after he worked through nine pitches at bat while trailing by four runs with two outs remaining.
Robbie O’Connor was recognized as Northeastern’s best pitcher of the regional after posting a 1.29 ERA across seven innings during Saturday’s elimination win over Missouri State. That victory marked the first time under head coach Mike Glavine that Northeastern outhit its opponent in an NCAA Regional game; Sunday’s matchup against Arkansas also saw them outhit an SEC or Power Four opponent for the first time during Glavine’s tenure.
The Huskies won five out of six elimination games between their conference tournament and regional play across their final two weekends of competition.
