The Northeastern Huskies lost to the Hofstra Pride, 5-4, in an 11-inning baseball game on March 27 at University Field. The defeat came in the first matchup of a Colonial Athletic Association weekend series.

The loss is significant for Northeastern as it marks only their second extra-inning game of the season and evens their record in such games to 1-1. The Huskies previously won a 13-inning contest at Stony Brook earlier this month.

Northeastern built an early lead with a three-run fourth inning. Carmelo Musacchia walked and Harrison Feinberg singled before Cooper Tarantino hit an RBI single. AJ Aschettino then delivered a two-run single, giving the Huskies a 3-0 advantage. However, Hofstra responded with runs across several innings: one each in the fourth and fifth, followed by a solo home run to tie it up in the sixth. The Pride took a brief lead with another run in the seventh.

The Huskies managed to tie the score again in the eighth inning after Ryan Gerety singled and Matt Brinker doubled, setting up Carter Bentley’s bases-loaded walk that brought home Brinker. Despite these efforts, Northeastern left thirteen runners stranded and went just two-for-eleven with runners in scoring position.

Robbie O’Connor pitched six innings for Northeastern, allowing four runs on four hits while striking out two batters. Joseph Hauser and Andrew Basel provided scoreless relief appearances before Matthew Sapienza took the loss after pitching over two innings late in extras.

Game two of the series is scheduled for Saturday at University Field.
