The Northeastern Huskies men’s baseball team defeated Central Connecticut State University 18-10 on Mar. 11, scoring 18 runs on nine hits and capitalizing on six errors by the Blue Devils at CCSU Baseball Field.
The game saw Northeastern take an early lead, with Ryan Gerety doubling to start the first inning and coming around to score after two CCSU errors. Anthony Ruggiero hit a two-run home run later in the inning, putting the Huskies up 3-0. The Blue Devils narrowed the gap, but Eric Cha responded with a three-run homer in the third inning to extend Northeastern’s lead.
Northeastern continued to build its advantage with multiple runs in five of the first seven innings. Matt Brinker hit a three-run home run during a six-run fifth inning that was aided by three CCSU errors. The Huskies added more runs through aggressive base running, collecting nine stolen bases throughout the game.
Brinker finished with a three-run homer, two walks, and three RBIs. Ruggiero went 3-for-4 with four RBIs, while Cha drove in three runs with his home run. Gerety contributed two doubles and scored three times at the top of the lineup.
On the mound, Cooper Maher earned the win in relief by pitching two innings and allowing just one unearned run. James Morice struck out four in 1.1 scoreless innings, and Jack Cropper closed the game with a scoreless eighth inning.
The Huskies are scheduled to return to Friedman Diamond for their first home games of the season, hosting Towson in a three-game Colonial Athletic Association series beginning Friday at 2 p.m.
