The Northeastern Huskies will make their 12th appearance in the NCAA Baseball Tournament, heading to Lawrence, Kansas, for the regional round, according to a May 25 announcement. The team secured its spot after winning back-to-back Coastal Athletic Association championships.
This marks the first time Northeastern has won consecutive CAA Championships and achieved back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances since 1972 and 1973. The Huskies claimed their tournament title by overcoming an initial loss and making a four-game run through the losers’ bracket, defeating top-seeded Campbell twice.
In the regional round, Northeastern is set to face No. 15 national seed Kansas, with potential matchups against No. 3 seed Missouri State or No. 2 seed Arkansas in subsequent games. Kansas enters as both Big 12 regular-season and tournament champion under head coach Dan Fitzgerald and is hosting an NCAA regional for the first time.
Arkansas, led by Dave Van Horn, holds a reputation as a perennial College World Series contender with twelve appearances and currently ranks No. 22 nationally at 36-19 overall. Missouri State makes its thirteenth regional appearance after earning an at-large bid based on a strong RPI ranking during its first season competing in Conference USA.
Northeastern’s opening game against Kansas is scheduled for Friday at 1 p.m. Eastern Time on ESPN+. This matchup will be only the second meeting between these programs on the baseball field and their first since 2015.
