The Northeastern men’s rowing team advanced each of its eights to the B Final on May 30 during Day Two of the IRA National Championships at Lake Natoma in Gold River, California. The varsity four placed third in its B Final, finishing ninth nationally.
Northeastern was also named the winner of the 2025-26 Rusty Callow Award, which is presented annually by the Eastern Association of Rowing Colleges to the crew that best personifies spirit, courage and unity. The award has been given since 1963 and is determined by a vote among EARC head coaches.
In first varsity action, Princeton established an early lead with Northeastern and Washington close behind. Dartmouth overtook Northeastern midway through the race to secure third place and a spot in the A Final with a time of 5:40.630, while Northeastern finished fourth at 5:42.380 and will compete in Sunday’s B Final against Penn, Syracuse, Brown, Yale, and Boston University.
The second varsity semifinal saw Yale leading early before Washington and California moved ahead at halfway. Brown passed both Yale and Northeastern late in the race for third place as Northeastern finished fifth with a time of 5:52.620. The Huskies will row out of Lane 3 in Sunday’s B Final against Yale, Penn, Stanford, Cornell, and Dartmouth.
In third varsity competition, Harvard took first while Washington followed closely; Yale maintained its advantage over Northeastern for most of the race as Northeastern made a final push but finished fourth with a time of 5:56.640. The Huskies’ third varsity boat moves on to Sunday’s B Final facing Dartmouth, Boston University, Penn, Stanford, and Syracuse.
The varsity four led early in their B Final but were overtaken by Boston University and Syracuse later on; they ultimately placed third (6:38.430), finishing ninth overall.
