The Northeastern men’s rowing team will race in Sarasota, Florida for two days of competition at Nathan Benderson Park, according to a March 26 announcement. The event will feature three Huskies eights facing Brown and Yale on Friday afternoon, followed by additional races on Saturday.

This weekend’s regatta brings together some of the highest-ranked collegiate crews in the country. According to the preseason JRN Collegiate Poll, participating teams include No. 1 Washington, No. 2 Harvard, No. 6 Brown, No. 7 Northeastern, No. 8 Stanford, and No. 10 Yale.

Friday’s schedule includes third varsity racing at 3:10 p.m., second varsity at 4:40 p.m., and first varsity at 5:30 p.m., with the Dreissigacker Cup contested between Northeastern and Brown during the first varsity race. The cup replaces a previously scheduled dual meet between these schools and has been an annual tradition since its inception in 1965—except for a cancellation in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic—with Brown holding a historical advantage of thirty-five wins to Northeastern’s twenty-five.

On Saturday, all three Northeastern boats will compete again for the Benderson Cup against Brown, Harvard, Stanford, Yale and Washington starting at 10:50 a.m.

Earlier this week it was announced that Alex Stamas and Julian Leonhardt from Northeastern were named to the IRCA Athlete Watchlist for this season. Stamas is one of six Division I/II coxswains recognized on this list while Leonhardt serves as both stroke seat in first varsity and co-captain.
