The Northeastern men’s rowing team retained the Arlett Cup after winning three out of four races against Boston University on April 4. The event, held on the Charles River, saw No. 8 Northeastern defeat No. 12 Boston University in a closely contested series highlighted by a narrow victory in the first varsity race.
The Arlett Cup win marks Northeastern’s eighth consecutive victory in this annual contest and its eleventh win in the last fourteen meetings between these teams. The Huskies now lead the all-time Arlett Cup series with a record of 35-12 and hold a 52-17 advantage over Boston University since their rivalry began in 1966.
In the first varsity race, coxswain Alex Stamas and co-captain Julian Leonhardt led Northeastern to an early lead that they maintained throughout most of the course. Despite a late challenge from Boston University, Northeastern finished ahead with a time of 5:50.699 to BU’s 5:51.192.
Northeastern also won both the second and third varsity races, with strong performances from crews led by Connor Burke (2V) and AJ Hwangbo (3V). The fourth varsity race was won by Boston University with a time of 6:08.408, while Northeastern finished at 6:11.579.
This year’s results also mark only the thirteenth time that Northeastern has captured all three major cups—the Arlett, Burk, and Dreissigacker—in one season; it is their first such sweep since 2023.
Looking ahead, Northeastern will take a break for three weeks before returning to face Harvard for the Smith Cup on April 28.
