The Northeastern men’s hockey team lost to UMass 3-2 in overtime on Friday night at the Mullins Center. The game was closely contested, with both teams exchanging leads and pushing the match into extra time.

Northeastern took a 1-0 lead in the second period when senior Austen May scored off a pass from junior Dylan Hryckowian. Freshman Amine Hajibi assisted by moving the puck into position for May’s goal. This play also marked Hryckowian’s 100th career point.

UMass responded before the end of the second period, scoring twice to take a 2-1 advantage at intermission.

Early in the third period, Hryckowian tied the game at 2-2 after receiving a pass from senior Vinny Borgesi, who was set up by Hajibi. This goal forced overtime as neither team could break the deadlock in regulation.

In overtime, UMass scored with just 21 seconds left to secure the win. Goaltender Lawton Zacher recorded 24 saves over more than 64 minutes of play. Sophomore Jack Henry and junior Tyler Fukakusa each had two blocks, while Hajibi led all players with ten shots on goal.

Looking ahead, Northeastern will quickly prepare for their next matchup against Boston University in the semifinal round of the 73rd Dunkin’ Men’s Beanpot at TD Garden on Monday night. The game is scheduled to start at 8 p.m.
