The No. 7 Northeastern men’s rowing team claimed victory over No. 6 Brown in the first varsity race on March 27 to secure the Dreissigacker Cup at Day One of the Sarasota 2K.

The win marks Northeastern’s 26th time winning the Dreissigacker Cup and its first since 2023. The event saw strong competition among top-ranked crews, with Yale, Brown, and Northeastern all contending closely across three races.

In the final race of the day, Yale took an early lead while Northeastern and Brown stayed even through the opening stretch. Led by coxswain Alex Stamas and stroke Julian Leonhardt, Northeastern edged ahead of Brown by half a second at midway before narrowly finishing second to Yale with a time of 5:42.04—just two hundredths of a second ahead of Brown for the cup.

Earlier races included a close contest in the second varsity event where Yale started fast but was overtaken by both Brown and Northeastern during the middle stages. Despite a late push from Northeastern coxed by Connor Burke, Brown held on for victory with less than two seconds separating them at the finish line (5:48.40). In third varsity action, stroked by Max Jarvie, Northeastern established an early lead against Yale and extended it throughout to finish six seconds ahead of Brown with a time of 5:55.81.

Racing continues Saturday as Northeastern faces off against No.1 Washington, No.2 Harvard, No.6 Brown, No.8 Stanford, and No.10 Yale.
