Justice Tramble set a new career high with 21 rebounds and matched her best scoring output, but Northeastern University’s women’s basketball team was defeated by North Carolina A&T, 89-86, in triple overtime on Thursday night at Corbett Sports Center. The contest marked Northeastern’s first triple-overtime game since January 7, 2010.
Tramble, a sophomore forward from Canton, Michigan, scored 18 points on 7-of-15 shooting and collected 12 offensive rebounds while playing nearly 39 minutes. Morgan Matthews also tied her career high with 15 points, adding one rebound and three steals over more than 43 minutes of play. Matthews previously reached the same scoring mark against Yale earlier this season.
Northeastern entered the fourth quarter trailing by five but outscored N.C. A&T to tie the game at 70 on a last-second basket by Camryn Collins. Collins finished with 12 points for the Huskies. Yirsy Quéliz added ten points and led all players with seven assists despite struggling from the field.
The teams traded leads through two additional overtime periods, tying the score at several points before Chaniya Clark hit a three-pointer with eleven seconds left in the third overtime to give N.C. A&T an advantage they held until the final buzzer. Paris Locke paced the Aggies with 22 points and thirteen assists.
Northeastern led by two at halftime after outscoring N.C. A&T in the second quarter but managed only seven points in the third period as their shooting percentage dropped below thirty percent.
Despite losing, Northeastern out-rebounded N.C. A&T by a wide margin (62-40), including a significant edge on offensive boards and second-chance points. The Huskies also scored efficiently in transition.
Northeastern will return to action Sunday against Elon.
