The No. 5 Northeastern women’s hockey team will travel to play the No. 4 Minnesota Golden Gophers in the NCAA Quarterfinals on March 14 at Ridder Arena, with the game scheduled for 3 p.m. Eastern Time and streaming live on ESPN+.
This matchup is significant as it marks Northeastern’s eighth appearance in the NCAA Tournament and only its second time earning an at-large bid. The Huskies last competed in the tournament in 2023, holding a record of four wins and six losses all-time in NCAA play, and have reached the Frozen Four three times.
Sophomore goaltender Lisa Jönsson has been named a semifinalist for National Goalie of the Year after being recognized as National Goalie of the Month for February and earning Hockey East Second Team All-Star honors. Jönsson has posted a goals against average of 1.60 and a .941 save percentage this season, ranking among the top goaltenders nationally.
Saturday’s game will be the ninth meeting between Northeastern and Minnesota but their first encounter in NCAA Tournament history. The teams last met in 2007, when Minnesota won 5-3; current Northeastern assistant coach Lindsay Berman scored for the Huskies during that game. Graduate student Jaden Bogden also brings experience against Minnesota from her time at Clarkson University.
Minnesota enters with a season record of 26-11-1 and is led by Abbey Murphy, who has recorded 64 points this year. In goal, Hannah Clark has played most games for Minnesota with a goals against average of 1.99 and a .923 save percentage.
The winner of Saturday’s quarterfinal will advance to the Frozen Four, which will be hosted by Penn State at Pegula Ice Arena from March 20 to March 22.
