Northeastern women’s rowing opens spring season at Doc Hosea Invite

The Northeastern women’s rowing team began its 2026 spring season on March 29 at the Doc Hosea Invite in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, competing against several nationally ranked crews. The event was held on the Cooper River and featured top-15 teams including No. 12 Syracuse, No. 8 Rutgers, No. 9 Virginia, and No. 3 Yale, with Yale winning the regatta.

Head coach Joe Wilhelm said, “We welcome the chance to compete against teams of this caliber. Testing ourselves against top-15 competition this early in the season gives us a clear picture of where we are and what we need to build on. These races will be great for our development as a program.”

During Session I against Syracuse and Virginia, Northeastern’s varsity eight finished with a time of 6:50.00 while the second varsity eight posted a time of 6:58.90 stroked by Liv Oyen. The varsity four completed their race in 8:02.90 and the second varsity four in 8:08.00 stroked by Persia Brown. The third varsity eight crossed in 7:19.00; meanwhile, racing Virginia and Rutgers, the fourth varsity eight finished at 7:35.90.

In Session II versus Yale, Ava Sjogren stroked the varsity eight to a finish time of 6:39.10 while the second varsity eight clocked in at 6:51.40 for their race with Yale’s crew members present as well as other competitors from previous heats that day.

The Huskies’ next competition is scheduled for April 4 on the Charles River where they will face Boston University.

Lineups for each boat were provided for all events throughout both sessions.
