Northeastern defeated Monmouth by a score of 7-1 on April 2 at Friedman Diamond, with strong pitching performances from Robbie O’Connor and Cooper Maher. The Huskies improved their record to 15-14 overall and 9-4 in the Coastal Athletic Association, while handing Monmouth its first conference road loss of the season.
The game was significant as it featured Northeastern overcoming the top offense in the CAA. The Huskies used timely hitting and effective pitching to secure the victory against a team that had previously not lost on the road in conference play.
O’Connor tied his career high with eight strikeouts over six innings, allowing just one run on four hits. Maher pitched the final three innings without allowing a run, earning his first career save and giving up only one hit. Together, they limited Monmouth’s offense throughout the game.
Northeastern’s offense broke through in the fourth inning with a three-run rally highlighted by clutch two-out hits from AJ Aschettino, Carter Bentley, and Charlie Criscola. In the seventh inning, back-to-back RBI doubles from Carmelo Musacchia and Ryan Gerety helped put the game out of reach for Monmouth. Musacchia and Gerety each finished with two hits, an RBI, and a run scored.
Harrison Feinberg extended his hitting streak to twelve games while Gerety reached base safely for his twenty-sixth consecutive game. O’Connor worked efficiently throughout his outing with just ninety-three pitches thrown across six innings.
The series between Northeastern and Monmouth will continue Friday at Friedman Diamond.
