Junior Charlie Ortmans will represent Harvard at the NCAA Outdoor Championships for the first time in his collegiate career after advancing from the men’s 10,000m semifinal on May 27 during the opening night of the 2026 NCAA East First Round in Lexington, Kentucky.

Ortmans, who is this season’s Ivy League champion in the men’s 10,000m, maintained a position in the top half of the pack throughout all 25 laps. He secured an 11th place finish with a final lap of 1:02.56 and a total time of 28:53.00. Fellow junior Sam Burgess finished close behind in 13th place with a time of 29:08.89.

The event began for Harvard with junior Timi Esan competing in the men’s 100m first round. Esan finished seventh in his heat and placed 39th overall with a time of 10.41 seconds. Earlier this season, Esan set an Ivy League all-conditions record by running a time of 10.15 seconds at the Texas Relays.

Sophomore Harlow Tong competed in the men’s 400m first round and recorded a time of 46.33 seconds to finish in 37th place overall after winning his heat earlier this year at the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships with a school-record-breaking run under forty-six seconds.

First-year Oliver Parker made his NCAA East First Round debut by running a personal-best time of 51.18 seconds to secure sixth all-time ranking for Harvard men’s outdoor program history and finishing in thirty-second place overall during men’s four-hundred-meter hurdles first round competition.

Looking ahead, Harvard’s women’s team will begin its participation at the NCAA East First Round tomorrow evening, starting with women’s one-hundred-meter hurdles.
