Harvard University junior Owen Woolbert has been named the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) Defensive Player of the Week. This is Woolbert’s first time receiving the honor this season and the second time in his career.
Woolbert, who plays as a middle blocker, was recognized for his performance during Harvard’s recent sweep against Charleston. He accumulated 28 total points over two matches, which is his second-highest output in such a stretch, behind only an earlier series this season against NJIT.
During Saturday’s match, Woolbert tied his personal record with seven total blocks and contributed four more blocks on Friday. These numbers matched his best two-match blocking performance to date. In addition to his defensive efforts, he achieved a season-high four service aces during the series.
On February 27, Woolbert recorded a .556 hitting percentage with 12 kills and four total blocks. The following day, he hit .500 with six kills and seven total blocks.
So far this season, Woolbert has tallied 101 kills, 36 total blocks, 28 digs, and 134 points.
Looking ahead, Harvard will play at home on Friday, March 6 at 7:00 p.m. against AIC and will host St. Thomas Aquinas on Saturday, March 7 at 5:00 p.m. Both games are scheduled to be streamed on ESPN; Friday’s game will also be available on NESN.
