Boston University defeated Bucknell 15-0 on April 4, completing a series sweep in softball at home. The Terriers recorded a combined score of 39-0 over three games, marking their third consecutive shutout against the Bison.
The game was highlighted by senior Kasey Ricard’s pitching and junior Kylie Doherty’s offensive performance. Ricard struck out five batters and became the Patriot League’s all-time leader in career victories with her 95th win. Doherty hit her fifteenth home run of the season, setting a new single-season program record for Boston University, and added a three-run double to bring her RBI total to 53—just two short of tying the school record.
Senior Megan Coyle contributed with two hits and three RBIs, while Camryn Lyons and Madolyn Coupal each scored twice. Sophomore Ava Johnson pitched a scoreless fifth inning to secure the shutout.
The Terriers took an early lead after Deppiesse tripled in the first inning and scored on Doherty’s home run. The team continued to build momentum throughout the game, adding runs in every inning. In total, Boston University collected twelve hits while holding Bucknell to just three.
With this win, Ricard now leads both Cassidi Hardy (2010) and Ali DuBois (2021) by ten wins in Boston University’s record book. She is also closing in on additional strikeout milestones within both school history and Patriot League records. Doherty has surpassed Chiya Louie (2007) for most homers at BU both for a single season and career; she is one homer away from tying Colgate’s Melissa Rawson’s league single-season mark set in 2003.
Boston University improved its all-time record against Bucknell to 33-7 with its twenty-first straight victory over them. The Terriers will next host Providence for a doubleheader scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.
