The Boston University women’s track and field team completed the NCAA East First Rounds in Lexington, Kentucky, after competitions held on May 28 and May 30.

Seniors Ellie Roan and Peace Omonzane both qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Thursday. Junior Adrienne Buettner-Cable concluded her junior season in the 10,000 meters on Thursday. Omonzane also competed again on Saturday in the triple jump but finished 23rd and did not advance further.

Roan achieved a throw of 64.22 meters with her second attempt in the hammer throw, leading after the third flight. Only four competitors surpassed her mark during the final flight. Her other throws of 63.66 meters and 62.43 meters would have also qualified her for advancement. The distance of 64.22 meters set a new school record.

Roan is noted as the first female Terrier field athlete to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships since Allison Barwise reached that stage in high jump in 2014. In long jump, Omonzane’s first attempt measured at 6.25 meters, placing her eleventh regionally and securing qualification to compete at Eugene.

Omonzane is the first BU female horizontal jumper to make this event since Tahari James participated in triple jump in 2009 as part of BU Athletic Hall of Fame history. In Saturday’s triple jump competition, Omonzane reached a distance of 12.80 meters on her final attempt, finishing twenty-third overall; she previously won both indoor and outdoor Patriot League titles this year.

Buettner-Cable did not finish Thursday’s race but closed out her junior year after earning Second Team All-Patriot League honors with a silver medal performance at conference championships earlier this season.

Looking ahead, Roan will compete for a national title at Hayward Field on June 11 at 5:30 p.m. Eastern Time (2:30 p.m. Pacific), while Omonzane will participate later that day at Hayward Field at 9:40 p.m. Eastern Time (6:40 p.m. Pacific).
