Northeastern University senior pitcher Ryan Griffin was named the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Pitcher of the Week, according to a March 9 announcement from the league. Griffin earned this recognition following his key contributions during Northeastern’s 3-1 week, which included wins over No. 2 LSU and Stony Brook in different pitching roles.
The award highlights Griffin’s versatility on the mound. On Monday at LSU, he made his first collegiate start and pitched 5.1 innings, allowing just one earned run on four hits and two walks while striking out two batters. The Huskies led 11-2 when Griffin left the game and went on to secure a 13-10 victory, marking their highest-ranked win in program history.
Later in the week, Griffin played a crucial role in an extra-innings game against Stony Brook that resumed Sunday after being suspended due to darkness. He delivered two perfect innings of relief with two strikeouts, helping Northeastern clinch its 11th consecutive CAA series dating back to 2024.
Griffin, who is from North Andover, has already reached a career-high with 11.2 innings pitched this season across five appearances. He has recorded five strikeouts and holds a 2.31 earned run average so far this year.
Looking ahead, Northeastern will remain in the Northeast for four games this week. The team will play Central Connecticut on Wednesday before hosting Towson Tigers for their first home series of the season starting Friday.
