Two Harvard Crimson softball players received Ivy League weekly awards for their performances in a recent series sweep against Cornell, according to an April 6 announcement. Junior infielder Sophie Sun was named the Ivy League’s Player of the Week, while first-year outfielder Sheila Forbes shared Rookie of the Week honors with Columbia’s Mads Lawson and Yale’s Jane Littleton.
The recognition highlights standout efforts by both athletes during the road games. Sun led Harvard in several offensive categories, including batting average (.636), hits (7), runs batted in (8), home runs (2), and slugging percentage (1.364). She also maintained a perfect fielding percentage throughout the series. In the final game, Sun drove in seven runs with four hits—her career best—and hit Harvard’s first grand slam of the season during the second inning.
Forbes, who is from Naples, Florida, earned her second Rookie of the Week award this season. Over the weekend games in upstate New York, she posted a .556 batting average with five hits and four runs scored while leading her team with a .692 on-base percentage. Across 27 appearances this year, Forbes has maintained a .484 on-base percentage and holds third place on Harvard’s roster for batting average at .377.
Harvard will continue its season with an upcoming three-game series against Brown scheduled for Saturday, April 11 and Sunday, April 12.
