Plymouth County ranked fifth in state for resident earnings in 2017

Plymouth County ranked fifth among counties in Massachusetts by annual earnings per resident, according to data obtained from the U.S. Census Bureau in August.

The median income of Plymouth County residents was an inflation-adjusted $36,001 per year. Plymouth County had 184,195 households in 2017, with a population of 509,114.

The county with the highest median resident income in the state was Norfolk County. Norfolk County's median income was $42,889 per year after adjusting for inflation – $6,888 more than Plymouth County. It had 262,324 households in 2017 and a population of 694,389.

Hampshire County had the lowest annual resident income among counties in Massachusetts, with a median income of only $25,761 per year. That was $10,240 less than the median income in Plymouth County at the time. Hampshire County had 58,782 households in 2017 and a population of 161,197.
