The Boston University women's soccer team fell to #RV Michigan 6-2 on Sunday afternoon at Nickerson Field.
With the result, the Terriers' record drops to 2-2. The Wolverines improve to 3-1 and go undefeated on their trip to Boston.
Sophomore Morgan Fagan tallied her first goal of the year in the second minute of play, but Michigan answered 42 seconds later to knot the game at 1-1. That score would be the first of six unanswered tallies for the visiting side, before junior Abigail McNulty halted the run in the 80th minute with her second goal of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Terriers struck first when McNulty operated in the left corner and crossed the ball into the box. Fagan, occupying the right post, located the ball 12 yards out for the finish.
- Just 42 seconds later, Michigan pressed in the BU zone, where Dani Wolfe shook off a defender near the top-right corner of the penalty box and beat goalkeeper Celia Braun far side.
- In the 12th minute, multiple Terriers blanketed Meredith Haakenson, only for the Wolverine to find Kacey Lawrence for the one-timer to put Michigan ahead 2-1.
- The game's deciding goal came via Lily Farkas, who deked to her right at the top of the box and tucked a right-footed shot into the left corner to make it 3-1 in the 21st minute.
- Michigan's Claire Dawson recollected her deflected cross in the 34th minute, and sent the second attempt to Sammi Woods for the header that extended the edge to 4-1.
- Haakenson and Woods scored in the 51st and 55th minutes, respectively.
- On BU's final goal, freshman Margy Porta sent the ball to McNulty in the left corner. Towards the end line, the junior blasted the ball above Michigan keeper Katherine McElroy, who tipped the shot but couldn't keep it out of the net.
- The Wolverines outshot the Terriers 14-6.
- Sunday featured just one save and one corner kick, both from BU. Senior Gretchen Bennett made the stop in the 76th minute.
- BU is the first team this year to score multiple goals against Michigan.
- Fagan's tally was the earliest goal scored by BU this year, and against the Wolverines.
- McNulty, who has scored in two consecutive games, finished with a goal and an assist. She now has a team-high five points this year.
- Fagan now has four career goals, scoring her first since Oct. 23, 2021 against Loyola Maryland.
- Porta collected her first collegiate point with the assist.
- Michigan improves to 3-0 all-time against BU.
- BU returns to action on Thursday (Sept. 1) with a road swing to Yale. Opening kick is slated for 7 p.m.
