Boston University women's soccer redshirt senior Jenna Oldham has been selected as the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 19, the league announced on Monday afternoon.
Oldham collects the first Defensive Player of the Week award for the Terriers this season, and the first in her career. She is the first Terrier to pick up the recognition since teammate Ashley Buck did so on Oct. 11, 2021. This is Oldham's first weekly award since she was named Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 4, 2021, and the third total in her career.
Oldham tallied her first point of the season with an assist on the game-tying goal in the 58th minute to help guide BU to a 2-1 comeback win over Lafayette in the Terriers' Patriot League opener on Sept. 17. On the defensive end, Oldham contributed to help limit the Leopards to just one shot on goal. In three of the Terriers' last five games, the defense has held foes to one shot on target.
The reigning Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year, Oldham has recorded five career goals and 13 career assists for 23 total points. This year, she has helped the BU defense allow one goal or fewer in six of its nine matches. Since moving to the back line during 2021, BU has surrendered more than one goal against a Patriot League opponent once in 13 games, including the postseason.
Oldham is the fourth Terrier to earn a weekly award this season. She joins senior Sophia Woodland (Midfielder of the Week – Aug. 22), junior Abigail McNulty (Offensive Player of the Week – Aug. 29), and freshman Giulianna Gianino (Rookie of the Week – Aug. 22 and 29).
BU closes out its four-game road swing on Wednesday (Sept. 21) at Colgate. Opening kick is scheduled for 7 p.m.
