REVERE, MA — Democratic Whip Katherine Clark (MA-5) released the following statement on the Supreme Court's decision in 303 Creative L.L.C. v. Elenis:
“It is a sad day in America. The extremist Supreme Court majority has condoned discrimination and dismissed the most basic rights of LGBTQIA+ Americans.
“Today’s twisted ruling is rooted in a lie: that some Americans are not worthy of the promise and protection of our Constitution. The Court used the veil of free speech to undermine freedom itself and open the door to legalized discrimination against any group for any reason — from who they love to how they look to where they come from.
“Every American lost fundamental rights today when the Court marked same-sex couples as second-class citizens. House Democrats stand with our LGBTQIA+ family and reject this blatant attempt to legitimize discrimination.”
