A Brockton woman has been sentenced to over eight years in prison for her involvement in a nationwide drug trafficking ring. The sentencing took place today in federal court in Boston, following an extensive investigation that led to the seizure of significant quantities of methamphetamine and firearms.
Robyn Costa, 39, was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton to 102 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release. In November 2022, Costa pleaded guilty to three counts from a superseding indictment. These charges included conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine, possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine, and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking offense. The same indictment charged ten other defendants with various controlled substance offenses, firearm offenses, and money laundering offenses.
The investigation began around October 2020 when authorities received information about drug trafficking activities involving a large-scale methamphetamine supplier in the Boston area. By late 2020, investigators had identified Reshat Alkayisi as a key trafficker distributing multi-pound quantities of methamphetamine throughout New England. Costa was identified as one of Alkayisi’s distributors. In April 2021, Alkayisi supplied approximately five pounds (2.1 kilograms) of pure methamphetamine to Costa. Following this transaction, investigators arrested Costa and seized the drugs along with a loaded Smith & Wesson semi-automatic firearm from her vehicle.
Costa is the second defendant from this case to be sentenced; all other defendants have pleaded guilty and are awaiting sentencing.
Acting United States Attorney Joshua S. Levy announced the sentencing alongside Jodi Cohen, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Boston Division; Stephen Belleau, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration's New England Field Division; and several local law enforcement agencies including the Massachusetts Department of Correction and Norfolk County Sheriff’s Office.
The case is part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) operation aimed at dismantling high-level criminal organizations through coordinated efforts among multiple agencies.
