Sophomore Thomas Cowan from Boston University has been named the Patriot League Track Athlete of the Week, according to an announcement by the league on Tuesday.

Cowan competed in the 800-meter race at the Saucony Battle for Boston on Sunday night, recording a time of 1:46.84. He finished sixth overall and was the top collegiate athlete in the event. His time was just 0.01 seconds slower than his personal best and current school record at Boston University. This performance is also faster than any other time posted by a Patriot League athlete in this season.

This marks Cowan’s fourth Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week award during this season, making him one of only two athletes in Patriot League history to achieve this distinction four times in one season. The last occurrence was during the 2002-03 season.

Boston University’s men’s track & field team will participate next at the 2026 Patriot League Indoor Championships, scheduled for Saturday, February 28 and Sunday, March 1 at the Track & Tennis Center.
