Harvard University announced on Mar. 24 that junior Timi Esan has been named the Ivy League Men’s Athlete of the Week following his performances in Houston, Texas last weekend.
The recognition highlights Esan’s achievements at the Kirk Baptiste Invitational, where he set a new school record in the men’s 100-meter dash with a time of 10.26 seconds. This makes him only the second student-athlete in Harvard program history to run under 10.30 seconds in this event, surpassing the previous record of 10.28 set by Chris Lambert during the 2002 season.
Esan, who is from London, United Kingdom, also contributed to Harvard’s men’s 4×100-meter relay team at the TSU Relays on Saturday. Running as the third leg for Harvard, he helped secure a time of 39.72 seconds—ranking fourth all-time in school history for this event.
According to Harvard officials, Esan’s individual time now ranks among the top five fastest ever recorded in Ivy League history for the men’s 100 meters.
Looking ahead, Harvard will continue its outdoor track and field campaign this weekend at two events: The Raleigh Relays from Thursday through Saturday and the D’Amour Invitational on Friday.
