Boston University’s women’s ice hockey team lost 2-0 to the sixth-ranked University of Connecticut on Saturday at Walter Brown Arena.

The game remained scoreless after the first period, with Boston University successfully killing a penalty late in the frame. In the second period, BU was shorthanded for nearly nine minutes, including facing a brief 5-on-3 advantage for UConn toward the end of a major penalty. Graduate student Michelle Pasiechnyk made 34 saves for BU and helped keep her team in contention during these penalty kills.

UConn scored first with 12:15 left in the second period when Kyla Josifovic assisted Emma Eryou at the slot. Despite BU’s efforts in the third period to find an equalizer, they were unable to get past UConn’s defense. Christina Walker of UConn added an empty-net goal with less than three minutes remaining.

BU recorded only 11 shots compared to UConn’s 36. Both teams failed to convert on their power play opportunities; UConn went 0-for-4 while BU went 0-for-2. Senior Maeve Carey and sophomore Tessa Demain each blocked three shots for BU, tying for a game-high. Faceoffs were nearly even, with UConn holding a slight edge at 21-20.

Boston University now has an overall record of 9-19-3 and a Hockey East mark of 7-13-2 this season. The Terriers will next face Providence at Walter Brown Arena on Friday, February 20, which will also be their Senior Night.
