Harvard women’s lacrosse lost to No. 8 Yale in a closely contested game on April 18, as the Bulldogs scored two late goals to secure a 14-13 victory.
The match was notable for its high scoring, with both teams combining for 27 goals. Harvard managed to score more goals against Yale than any other team this season and held a lead of 12-8 with just over nine minutes left in the third quarter. However, Yale responded by scoring six of the next seven goals and maintained their undefeated record in Ivy League play.
Yale began the game strongly, taking an early lead before Cecelia Batchelder put Harvard on the scoreboard. The Crimson then tied the game at three but trailed by two at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter, Harvard’s offense surged with six goals from several players, including Kate Gilliam and Callie Batchelder, allowing them to take a halftime lead.
Charlotte Hodgson led another offensive push for Harvard in the third quarter by scoring three consecutive goals. Despite this effort, Yale rallied with four straight scores to tie heading into the final period. Hodgson added her fifth goal early in the fourth quarter to briefly regain Harvard’s advantage before Yale answered back and ultimately clinched victory.
Harvard will next travel to UConn for its final non-conference matchup of the season.
